The record this year, whilst not overly impressive, does represent an improvement from last year. The Jesters in the 2005-06 season Played 31, Won 14, Lost 15, Drawn 2
This year we slightly reduced the number of games played as part of the process of refocusing on the matches that work best. As a club we participated in the Friendly Fives Initiative at Westway and will continue to do so in the coming season. The EFA ladder has also been supported this year by the club. However, on both of these fronts the Jesters could play a larger role and I would encourage any Jester, regardless of standard to play in both of these formats in the coming season.
2005 has also seen an acceleration of new Jesters approved for candidature this year – this is an important part of the process of widening and strengthening our pool of players.
In this report last year I commented on the now lack of games outside of London, in particular in the Northern region. I would like to use this opportunity to again state that The Jesters are keen to promote the game in all fives playing venues and particularly feel that we have a role to play in supporting areas/schools where the game has been somewhat neglected. This vision is closely shared with the EFA and in the next year we will be jointly sending teams to these regions. Indeed, the Jesters Club has agreed to offer financial support in the promotion of these matches.
