Fives has continued to go from strength to strength at Westway this year. The one-wall project begun last year has continued to blossom at Westway, ensuring that more young people come and play at Westway. Awareness of the sport has also increased thanks to Westway coaches teaching one-wall Fives in play centres (essentially after school crèches for working parents) throughout the borough.
There has been an increase in local schools using the courts at Westway, in some cases for the first time, as well as interest in using Fives as part of a Duke of Edinburgh Award by one local school. This trend will no doubt continue allowing the game to be spread to a wider audience. Westway once again entered pairs into the Schools National Championships drawn from local schools.
Westway has continued to be the host for league fixtures and tournaments this season, with many of its regular players attending most of the tournaments this season. It has even been the host for club nights for those clubs who needed extra courts or wanted to concentrate on a different area.
Perhaps the biggest success this season has been the amount of players who are playing Fives at Westway either for the first time, or for the first time since they were at school. This has increased the amount of adults who attend our regular club nights and has both rekindle the enthusiasm of those who used to play and begun the enthusiasm of those who are new to the game. Hopefully this enthusiasm will continue with the Westway Club Team joining league three next season.
All in all Fives has continued to grow at Westway this season and hopefully will continue to do so.
