The Association made a profit of £4,074 during the year.
The Association raised its annual subscription for the year from £15 to £20 per individual member and asked all members to sign up to the direct debit method of payment. Although many members did this, a significant number failed to reply and therefore continue to pay £15 though we are actively chasing to convert these individuals. The main reason for the increase in subscription was to fund past costs of maintaining coaches and the major financial commitment which the EFA made to develop the fives at Westway. This year for the first time in three years we did not provide any funding for Westway and this centre is now thriving on a financially self-sustaining basis.
HSBC Insurance brokers again sponsored the Schools Championships in the sum of £1,500. We continue to be indebted to them for this and for the excellent evening’s entertainment of the Bursars and Masters in charge of Fives which was hosted at Shrewsbury this year. We look forward to continuing close relations with HSBC.
In addition, we received a generous donation of £1,000 from one of our Swiss members who was enthused by the Board’s new strategy for Eton Fives “the Way Forward”.
This has been a year of planning the Way Forward and starting to implement the wide ranging actions it prescribes. In this connection half the initial cost of setting up a database of fives players has been incurred.
All revenues from the sale of coaching manuals continue to be offset against the cost of stocks held.
Please contact myself or Richard Barber, our Chairman, if you have any ideas or suggestions about sponsorship of our activities.
Finally, to assist with the harmonisation of matters with the Rugby Fives Association (RFA), the Board has agreed to change our accounting reference dates to 30 April which will then be the same as the RFA. This will help the proposed joint production of the annual report.
