Over the last few years, Jon Wallis, an Old Wulfranian based at Wolverhampton University has created and maintained a website for Eton Fives. Jon has recently moved from Wolverhampton and this seemed an appropriate moment for the EFA to take over the responsibility for this data base. In future it will be maintained by Mike Fenn working closely with Jon, who has very kindly agreed to continue as an unpaid consultant. We are very grateful to Jon for the time and effort he has freely given during the last few years and for the recent advice and support given by Robin Mason, Justin Adie and Julian Fenn.
A website has a great deal to offer, particularly to the younger members, in terms of keeping touch in with each other and in providing an active resource. For example, it is simple to record up-to-date match and tournament results, provide on-line competition entries, supply lastest news and developments in the game and to incorporate an EFA mailing list. If we encourage young members while still at school to use the website, then we may well have a better chance of keeping in touch with them after they leave.
Current contents of the website include:
Articles: Five Centuries of Fives - A brief history of Eton, Rugby and Winchester Fives: 150 years of Fives at Eton - M D Constantinidi looks back at the history of Fives at Eton, birthplaceplace of today's game; An American Handballer's View of Fives - The Oxford/Cambridge Match.
Pictures: Fives at Sunningdale.
Playing the Game: Hints on Eton Fives - A concise guide to the essence of playing good Fives by the late G Townsend-Warner.
Directors/Responsibilities: Who does what.
Clubs: Details of Club Secretaries.
Schools; Schools Addresses and names of Masters-in-Charge.
Competition Results: Recent finalists of all Club and School Competitions.
Tournament Dates: 1999-2000

For the 1999/2000 Season the intention is to provide a monthly update of league results and Fives news. Much will depend on the ability of Mike Fenn to master the intricacies of HTML (the HyperText Marking Language)! In the meantime Mike would very much welcome any suggestions you have to improve the website.
The website address is: webspace.centranet.co.uk/efa. Please make use of it.
