Swiss Alps Schools' Fives Tour Holidays

For the past couple of years, there has been a Swiss Fives Tour and combined Holiday . Two years ago, Mill Hill School and the St.Olave's School/Old Olavians travelled to the Engadin and last year, it was St.Olave's and Cambridge University. A lot has been learnt during these fabulous visits, combined with the experience of working each year at the school with the Fives Coaching programme. As a result, for the first time this year, a holiday/ Fives Tour package was pre-arranged by REFCA, that will be opened up from this point onwards so that any pupils from any schools can visit Zuoz. All transport, food, accommodation and the week's activity programme is fully arranged and supervised to ensure a varied and hugely enjoyable week. As well as benefiting the Lyceum by having Touring teams visit them, the touring team members will benefit from making new friends across the different schools that are represented in the Touring Group.

Fives, Tennis, Volleyball, Cricket (on the highest elevated cricket pitch in the world) , Frisbee, Football, Walking and Mountain-biking will be available for those whose idea of a holiday is to stay active!! A programme of official Fives Matches is arranged to take place between each of the touring schools, and the Lyceum and Lyceum Staff Teams. The Lyceum itself, as the Host School, organise an official reception for the touring teams, a meeting with their Headmaster, and an official Fives Lunch for the entire Lyceum Fives team and Touring party combined. The hospitality is quite superb. Cable car rides, superb scenic train journeys and snowball fights on the mountains compliment the activities! This worked so well this year (July 2001) with a mix of 11 girls and boys from Emanuel and St.Olave's Schools. It is so good to see pupils from different schools come together and become good friends through a mutual interest.

Now any school can go on a Fives Tour - the individuals can simply sign up and be chaperoned by the REFCA Holiday organisers and staff. It does not fall on the Master-in-Charge to give up a week of his/her time and to make all the arrangements.

It is anticipated that between four and six schools will be represented at next years' Fives Tours/Holidays to the Swiss Alps. There will be a maximum of sixteen places available in each of two one week trips in July 2002. Places will be awarded on a first come first serve basis and are available for any girl or boy aged from 14 upwards.
