In 1981 the Chairman announced "We are pleased to report that the first County Championship will take place in the 1981/82 Season." The National Westminster Bank generously agreed to sponsor this competition, to be known as the NatWest Eton Fives County Championship. Mr Robin Leigh Pemberton, The NatWest Chairman, wrote: "At the National Westminster Bank we feel it is right to support a wide range of projects both nationally and locally so as to benefit as many aspects of life within the community as possible. Our programme includes support for the arts, sport and a large number of social events. We are, therefore, delighted to sponsor the EFA County Championship 1981/82." Fourteen Counties took part in the first year.
National Westminster sponsorship ceased after the 1990/91 Season.
